On July 31, St. Andrew, male educators are being called to embrace their role as leaders and strengthen their impact within schools and communities.

The appeal came from Otis Brown, Director of Regional Educational Services, Region One, during the inaugural Leadership EmpowerMENt session hosted by the National College for Educational Leadership (NCEL) at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Regional Headquarters. The session was held under the theme “Empowered Men: Improved Leadership.”

Mr. Brown encouraged participants to set clear goals for personal and professional growth, using vision boards and the ‘Plan, Do, and Review’ strategy as tools for progress. He also stressed the importance of integrity and courage, reminding male educators that students and families look to them as role models.

“Our children expect us to live with integrity and moral principles. Families and communities rely on men to provide strength and support,” he said, urging participants to “disrupt the narrative” and embrace their potential for greatness.

NCEL Director/Principal, Keriffe Clark, explained that the initiative focuses on mentorship, empowerment, and networking, providing a safe space for male leaders to share experiences and build capacity.

“This programme recognises that men, particularly in a female-dominated sector, are vital to holistic development and serve as positive role models both in schools and communities,” Mr. Clark said.

The event marked the beginning of a wider effort to empower male educators to lead with vision, accountability, and purpose.
