Jamaica has entered a new era of education with the introduction of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) pilot programme in select schools. The initiative, announced by Minister of Education, Skills, Youth & Information, Senator, Dr. the Hon. Dana Morris Dixon, aims to automate paper marking and enhance real-time student performance tracking — a move that marks a critical milestone in the nation’s digital transformation agenda.
At the heart of the pilot is the goal of using AI to alleviate some of the administrative burdens on educators. By automating the correction of student assessments, teachers can now spend more time on lesson planning, student engagement, and instructional improvement. This effort is particularly timely as the Ministry seeks to improve learning outcomes and better manage classroom demands.
Automated Marking: AI systems will grade papers swiftly and objectively, reducing human error and saving time.
Real-Time Analytics: Teachers and administrators gain immediate insights into student progress and learning gaps.
Pilot Locations: The initiative is being trialled in selected schools across the island, with scalability in view.
