Title: Jamaica’s Summer School Programme Boosts Student Learning Nationwide
This summer, classrooms across Jamaica are buzzing with activity as students from all parishes engage in the Ministry of Education and Youth’s Summer School Programme. Designed to strengthen literacy and numeracy skills, the initiative targets students at both primary and secondary levels.
With growing participation, the programme reflects the Government’s commitment to bridging learning gaps and preparing students for academic success. By offering free, targeted academic support, the initiative ensures equitable access to education — especially in underserved communities.
School Boards have played a vital role in the programme’s success, supporting planning, resource allocation, and oversight. Their leadership continues to exemplify effective governance and collective responsibility.
As Jamaica advances its education transformation goals, the Summer School Programme stands as a strategic tool — ensuring that no child is left behind and that learning continues year-round.
The establishment of the NCE was born out of the need to have a non-partisan, national and strategically placed organisation that would "address a wide range of issues impacting the education process".
